Week commencing 28th August:

Well today, this afternoon, Beddau play their last match of the season away against Millwood in the Cardiff CML. If we can take 12 points off them, we will be safe in Division 4 for another season. Cowbridge are fourth, with 77 points, and we are fifth with 66 points. A tall order, but we can do it as we did beat them 12 v 2 at home early in the season. Millwood are looking for 3 points to get promoted to Division 3. Everything is set for a competitive match, and it looks like the weather is going to be good as well. Come on the BBC.

The rinks have been selected for this Saturday's Cardiff CML away match, against Millwood. It is our last match of the season, and I still don't know how we stand in our Division 4 Table. I have sent an email to the League Secretary, asking for an up to date Table, just so we know where we stand, and what we have to do. Please see our Team Selection section for all your information. Thank you.

Just a reminder, that Saturday 9th September is our Finals Day competition, so come along and watch some exciting matches on offer, 6 titles to be contested.

Week commencing 21st August:

Beddau played their last Cardiff CML match at home this afternoon (26th August), against our local rivals Llantrisant A. We will not be seeing much of them in the future, as they are dropping out of the CML, and are joining the Private Greens League. It was a very competitive match, with the scores in Beddau's favour by 2 shots after 15 or 16 ends. We rallied towards the end, and won on all four rinks. The score was 14 points to nil, and 80 shots to 64.

Some of you would have noticed, that Len Hogg had to go home feeling very unwell during the match. He was on Adriano's rink, but they rallied and won with three players, and only having 6 bowls to their 8. I have phoned Len to see how he is, and I can let you all know he is feeling much better now. Nurse Brenda is in attendance.

Beddau played their last Rhondda RAL match this afternoon (21st August), away against Ystradyfodwg. We won by 8 points to 2, and by 34 shots to 31 in a very close match. As you will see from the scores, we won one rink and lost one rink. Details on rinks and scores can be found in our Team Selection section.

Week commencing 14th August:

Beddau played a re-arranged Cardiff CML match this evening (15th August), at home against Blaenrhondda. We lost the match by 2 points to 12, and by 48 shots to 80. They got revenge after our win against them, a week last Saturday in .the Rhondda. They were just too good for us, on three of the rinks, with only one rink winning. Rinks and scores are detailed below

Beddau played a re-arranged Rhondda RAL match this afternoon (14th August), away against Ynysybwl. We won by 10 points to nil, and by 42 shots to 16. It was a good match, and we just managed to finish before we got too wet. Rinks and scores are found in our Team Selection section.

Week commencing 7th August:

Beddau played a Cardiff CML home match this afternoon (12th August), against Rhoose. We won by 12 points to 2, and by 92 shots to 75. A very good win, and a bit of revenge after our 14 nil score line at Rhoose early in the season, on their outdoor carpet. Rink scores and players are found in our Team Selection section.

Afternoon all, we have three matches for selection this week, and we are still trying to use our rotation policy wherever possibly. So please don't think of it as being 'dropped', because it isn't the case. We are trying to be fair to all our bowlers. The teams can be found in our Team Selection section. Thank you

Today Monday the 7th August was Ray Morgan's funeral, and I must say there was a very good turnout for him. Ray was a keen sportsman, playing cricket for Llantwit Fardre and latterly bowls for Beddau. He worked as a roofer, mostly outdoor work, and nearly always played his bowls in just a polo shirt whether it was cold or not. All of the Beddau bowlers turned out in Club tie, and in some cases Club Blazers. Ray was 79 years of age, and a well loved man.

Week commencing 31st July:

Good morning everyone. This is just a quick message regarding Ray Morgan's funeral next Monday. We found out last night, that there will only be family flowers only, but donations in lieu of flowers should be made out to Beddau Bowling Club. It was a surprise, and may I say a very nice one, on behalf of Kay and her family. Can I take this opportunity to thank Kay, and remind every bowler that Club ties are to be worn at Ray's funeral. Thank you.

Beddau played a Cardiff CML match this afternoon (5th August), away against Blaenrhondda. We won in a very exciting match, decided on the very last end of the match. The score was 10 points to 4, and 76 shots to 74. The overall scores were level after the first three rinks had come off, with Colin Jones rink to complete. With two woods to play, and Blaenrhondda holding one shot, it was Colin to play his last wood. It was perfectly delivered, and came off one of Beddau woods t...o take out the shot wood. Fortunately for Beddau home skip Rees Pugh could not find a way through, and the rink won the match, although losing by 23 shots to 24. It was a fitting end to a very good match, with Beddau winning two and losing two. Rinks and scores are detailed below.

Beddau played a re-arranged Rhondda REL match away on Tuesday evening (1st August), against Ely Valley. This was our last REL match of the season. We lost the match by 2 points to 12, and by 48 shots to 76. We had one winning rink, skipped by Adriano Milano, and one that lost by one shot on the last end. Rinks and scores can be found in our Team Selection section.

Beddau played a re-arranged Cardiff CML match away on Monday evening (31st July), against Trelewis. We lost again to them, by 2 points to 12 and by 55 shots to 82. Again, we only won one rink skipped by Colin Jones. Rinks and scores can be found in our Team Selection section.

Week commencing 24th July:

The teams to play our next two matches, have been selected and posted. Please check out our Team Selection section.

Beddau played a home Cardiff CML match this afternoon (29th July), against Trelewis. We lost the match by 2 points to 12, and by 68 shots to 97. We only had one winning rink, skipped by Jimmy Smith. We have the chance to get some revenge on Monday evening, as we play them again away, in a re-arranged match. Rinks and scores can be found in our Team Selection section.

Beddau played a Rhondda REL match at home tonight (27th July), against Ystradyfodwg. We won by 14 points to nil, and by 84 shots to 44.5. Well done all who played, and it is always a very good atmosphere when we play each other. Either home or away.

The Team Selection has been made, and posted for the coming week. We have four matches in six days, so it will be very tiring for all of us. We just have to carry on best we can, because I know Chris has found it very difficult to arrange all these postponed matches.

The funeral of Ray Morgan will take place on Monday the 7th August, at 12 noon at the Glyn Taf Crematorium in Pontypridd. All our Beddau Bowlers who have Club ties will be asked to wear them as a mark of respect for Ray, for all the years of service he has been involved in playing, Committee and auditing for Beddau Bowling Club.

Beddau played their reverse Rhondda RAL fixture this afternoon (24th July), at home against Treherbert. We won the match by 10 points to nil, and by 42 shots to 29. It meant that we did the double over them this season. Mal Manfield stepped in at the last minute, after Steve Vargas dropped out. Rinks and scores can be found in our Team Selection section.

Week commencing 17th July:

Beddau played an away Cardiff CML match this afternoon (22nd July), against Cowbridge. We did not win, but we palyed a very good match. Getting any points there, on their 'all weather carpet' is a real challenge. We lost by 4 points to 10, and by 69 shots to 79. The two winning rinks played really well, and deserved their two points. Rinks and scores are found in our Team Selection section.

We had a moments silence before the Cowbridge match, in respect for Ray Morgan who sadly passed away last night. (Ray played for many years for Beddau Bowling Club). Also, as a mark of respect, Cowbridge put their Club Flag at half mast, which was a lovely gesture from them.

It is with great sadness, that I have to inform you of the death of one of our bowlers, Ray Morgan. He had not been well for some time, and had suffered another stroke. Ray passed away last night (21st July), at 11.45pm. Our thoughts and prayers, go out to Kay and her family at this sad time. I will post details of his funeral arrangements when I receive them.

Beddau played a Rhondda REL home match this evening (20th July), against Ely Valley. We lost by nil points to 14, and by 48 shots to 74 in a very good match. Ely valley put out a very strong team to play us, which is in some way a complement to Beddau Bowls Club. Two rinks went very close to winning, and the rink and scores can be seen in our Team Selection section.

The teams for the next three matches has been made, and posted. Please note the 2pm start time for the Cowbridge match.

Beddau played a Rhondda RAL away match this afternoon (17th July), against Harlequins of Aberdare. Unfortunately we lost the match by nil points to 10, and by 33 shots to 50. The green was very dry, with lots of brown patches all over the rinks. This made it very difficult to keep the woods on the rink, if the kitty was near the green edge. But it was a good afternoon of bowls, played in good spirit on both sides. One rink lost on the last end, losing by three shots. The rink scores and players can be found in our Team Selection section.

Week commencing 10th July:

Beddau played a Cardiff CML match at home this afternoon (15th July), against Millwood who are top of the Division 4. We won by 12 points to 2, and by 66 shots to 43 in a very tight match. To show hoe tight it was, Jim Smith's rink took one shot on the last end to win 13 v 12. We were lucky in that the bad weather held off, just long enough for us to complete the match. This was a particularly good result for Beddau, having lost our last three matches. Well done everyone. See all the rinks and scores in our Team Selection section.

Beddau lost tonight's (13th July) Rhondda REL away match against Llantrisant (again), by zero points to 14, and by 36 shots to 90. I have got to say that Llantrisant put out a very strong team to play us. The score line looks terrible, but in many ways, this was a very competitive match. Both sides did their best, but the home team were just too strong for us. Next up, Millwood at home on Saturday in a Cardiff CML match.

Beddau's next three matches have been selected, and posted.

Beddau lost their Rhondda RAL match away against Penygraig this afternoon. We lost by nil points to 10, and 27 shots to 56. They were just too good for us, although we were holding our own by halfway. Rinks and scores can be found in our Team Selection section. beddaubowlingclub.com  Next up is Llantrisant away (again!!), in a Rhondda REL match on Thursday night.

Well it's off to Penygraig this afternoon (10th July) in a Rhondda RAL match. Match update to follow this evening.

Week commencing 3rd July:

Beddau played an away Cardiff CML this afternoon (8th July), against our local rivals Llantrisant A. Unfortunately, we lost by nil points to 14, and by 59 shots to 80. This was a tricky green, that well suited the home side. After our 12 point win on Thursday evening against Penrhys, this was quite a come down!  On to Penygraig on Monday next, in a Rhondda RAL match.

Beddau played a Rhondda REL match at home tonight (6th July), against Penrhys. We won the match by 12 points to 2, and by 86 shots to 40. There was one outstanding rink skipped by Colin Jones, who won by 34 shots to 1. It wasn't that they played badly, it was just excellent bowling from Beddau lads. Please see our Team Selection section for all rinks and scores.  .

The Team Selection has been made for the next three matches, and posted. See all the 'runners and riders' in our Yeam Selection section.

Beddau played a Rhondda RAL match away this afternoon (3rd July), away against Gelligaled on their all weather carpet. We lost miserabley. Well one rink did, mine!!! We lost by nil points to 10,and by 26 shots to 60. Rink scores below.
Rink 1: A. Lapsa, A. Fullhouse, M. Chivers, C. Rogers. (15 v 19)
Rink 2: K. Assiratti, M. Manfield, A. Milano, C. Jones. (11 v 41)

Week commencing 26th June:

Beddau played a re-arranged Rhondda RAL match at home, against Ynysybwl. We won the match by 10 points to nil, and by 45 shots to 31. It was an enjoyable match, with both sides knowing each other from the Ynysybwl Club, and the indoor leagues at Taff Ely in Pontypridd. The match was played in a good spirit from both sides. The rink players and scores can be found in our Team Selection section on our website. Our Mount Pleasant ladies were also playing, against their local rivals Llantrisant. Not sure who won that one. It was the first time both sides have played the at same time for quite a while. .

Beddau played a Rhondda RAL match at home this afternoon (26th June), against our local rivals Pontyclun. We won the match by 10 points to nil, and by 42 shots to 31. Two players had to drop out today, but our two reserves stepped in to play. The match was closer than the score suggests, with Beddau pulling away on the last three ends. Well done all the players. See the team members and rink scores, in our Team Selection section.

Week commencing 19th June:

The re-arranged match away against Trelewis in the Cardiff CML, has been agreed on the 31st July. The match, which is on a Monday evening, will start at 5.45pm. Dress code is greys and polo shirt. There will not be food after this match. Thank you.

Beddau played a Cardiff CML match away this afternoon (24th June), against Rhoose. We lost the match by 14 points to nil, and by 75 shots to 101. It was the first time that any of the Beddau bowlers had played at Rhoose. Their welcome was excellent, and they made us very welcome. There friendship carried onto the bowling green as well, which was an all weather carpet. The match was closer than the score suggests, with two of our rinks only losing on the last end. That were the rinks skipped by Adriano Milano and Colin Jones.

Well folks I have managed to get into our website, but as you may see I still have a few problems to sort out. This is supposed to be in the Team Selection section. However, I will persevere.

Week commencing 12th June:

Beddau played a Rhondda REL match at home tonight (15th June), against Ynyscynon. We won the match by 12 points to 2, and by 71 shots to 55. It was a closer match than the score suggests, with us winning over the last 4 - 5 ends. At one stage, we were losing the match, but rallied very well. We only lost one rink, and all our rinks scores can be found in our Team Selection section of our website. Well done Beddau, it was a good win.

The Team selection has been made, and posted for the next two matches. Please note there is no Cardiff CML match, a,s Blaenrhondda are involved in a Carruthers Shield match. Week commencing 5th June:

Beddau played a Rhondda REL away match against Ystradyfodwg tonight (8th June), and won by 10 points to 4, and by 51.75 shots to 51. It was a very tight match with two rinks won, and two lost. Haydn Robinson played the last wood on his rink and match, and drew the shot to win by 15 shots to 8. That one shot won us the match. On Adriano Milano's rink (three players), actually lost by 13 shots to 14, but had to take off 25% off their score. And that 9.75 shot difference was also a winner. It was a good performance from all our players, to ensure we won the match. Well done all of you. See al rink scores in our Team Selection section.

Today's RAL match at home to Ynysybwl was postponed due to the heavy rainfall, and the green being unsafe underfoot.

Week commencing 29th May:

Today (3rd June), Beddau played their first Cardiff CML match at home against Cowbridge. We won the match by 12 points to 2, and by 82 shots to 56. It was good to start with a win, but I think the reverse fixture will be much more difficult. A good start to our season.

Chris has informed me that our away match against Rhoose scheduled for 24th June, is a 2pm START, not 2.30pm as normal.

Beddau played Pengelli in a Rhondda REL home this evening the 1st June. We won the match by 11 points to 3, and by 70 shots to 66 in a very close match.

Week commencing 22nd May:

The home RAL match against Harlequins at home postponed on Monday, has been re-arranged for TUESDAY 29th August.

There will be no team selection tomorrow (23rd May), as we have no match until Thursday the 1st June. That match is at home against Pengelli.

Beddau played a Rhondda RAL away match today (22nd May), against Treherbert. Their hospitality was very good, and at the half way mark we went into their pavilion for tea and biscuits. We also had three prizes in the raffle. Back to bowling matters now. Beddau won by 9 points to 1, and by 63 shots to 20.        All rink scores can be found in our Team Selection section. Another point to note was a wrong bias again, from our Club Captain Colin Jones (me) . It was my last bowl of the day, and you can imagine the cheers. And his rink won by 44 shots to 1. This followed his wrong bias on Saturday away against Gelligaled. It was difficult again for me to report this. Ha Ha.

Week commencing 15th May:

Beddau played their last Carruthers Shield match today (20th May), away against Gelligaled on their outdoor bowling carpet. We lost the match by 52 shots to 103. We did not win any rinks, but Colin Jones rink was very close, losing on the last two ends 14 v 17.     There was a couple of things to note, one being a wrong bias from our captain Colin Jones (me), half way through their rink. And the other was our Len Hogg turning up in a Taff Ely Indoor top, which is green and white (ours is blue and white). What they like!!     On top of this, we lost on Dominic Jenkins 77th birthday. Happy birthday mate.

Beddau played a home REL match this evening (18th May), against our local rivals Llantrisant. Unfortunately we lost the match by 2 points to 12, and by 52 shots to 76. They now have the bragging rights, for now!!!

We only have 15 players for our REL away match against Ely Valley, so if anyone knows of a player available, please contact either Mike, Chris or myself. Please see our Team Selection section for details. Thank you.

Week commencing 24th October 2016:

Thursday the 27th October was Beddau Bowling Clubs Presentation night. Sorry, but for some reason I can't upload them onto our gallery, or this page. I will continue to try.

Week commencing 5th September:

Today, the 10th September, was Beddau Men's Finals Day. The weather was kind to us, and the sun came out during the afternoon. There were a few spectators at the start, but more turned up during the afternoon. We had a bonus today as well, in that our Club Captain Dominic Jenkins came to the green with his son, to see some of the play. It was great to see him, and hear his voice bellowing across the green. The Novice Plate was not played for this year, and the Handicap was not played for either. Mal Manfield was not well enough to play Chris Rogers, and hopefully it will be played during next week.

The day started at 11am, due to the green holding water from the overnight rain. The 2 Wood final was played on rink 5 in the best over 21 ends, between Jim Smith and Chris Rogers. It was a very good match, with the score changing several times. But Chris ran out of ends to win, and Jim Smith triumphed, winning by 16 shots to 11 on the 20th end. The next match played was the 3 Wood final played on rink 4, the first to get 7 shots, in the best of three sets. This was contested by Jim Smith and Colin Jones. The first set was a cagey game, with the lead changing several times. With the score at 6 all, Jim got the decisive shot and won by 7 shots to 6. The second set was a bit different, but started with Jim going into a 3 shot lead. Colin fought back to 3 shots all, but Jim Smith ran out by 7 shots to 3, and winning the match and the trophy by two sets to nil. There was a break for lunch, and the two remaining competitions were played at 2pm. The Pairs match was contested by Jeff Seldon and Chris Rogers, against Keith Ward and Colin Jones, and played on rink 5. This match was a one sided affair, with Jeff and Chris opening up and early lead on the 5th end by 5 shots to 1. They continued to play well, and Jeff was outstanding, getting 2 or 3 woods in the head everytime. He was supported very well by his skip Chris, and Keith and Colin struggled to get any shots in. the eventual score was a win for Jeff Seldon and Chris Rogers by 20 shots to 3. The final match was the Club Championship, played on rink 3. The match was contested by Jim Smith, who had already won two trophies, and our newest player Kelvin Assiratti who only started playing for Beddau this season. The match started off with the lead changing several times, and Kelvin showing no nerves. At least outwardly. Kelvin was matching Jim shots for shot and was leading at 5 shots to 4, before Jim's vast experience came to the fore. Jim Smith eventually winning by 21 shots to 8. It was a fitting end to our Finals Day.

After all the competitions had been played for, the trophies were presented to the winners by by our Club Chairman Steve Vargas. We had a new trophy this year for the Club Championship, which was given to us by the family of our former member Denis Emery. The Denis Emery Cup. It's a lovely cup, of which Jim Smith will be the first recipient.

Our green closes next Saturday, and will be open again next April. I hope all our bowlers enjoy the season break. And those who play indoors during the winter months enjoy themselves, and come back refreshed for next seasson. Thank you and good night.
